West Midlands Lupus Open Meeting April 2003:

West Midlands Lupus Group AGM & Open Meeting, Sunday 27th April 2003

This well-attended Meeting at Warley Baptist Church Hall heard a well-presented, and often humorous,

Talk from Dr. David Taylor, Consultant Dermatologist, and was given a demonstration of

Cosmetic Camouflage by Mrs. Iris Linn, Red Cross Volunteer.

Dr. Taylor explained the history of Lupus and its effects on the skin and gave very good advice on

coping with problems that patients may have.

Mrs. Linn explained how the Red Cross Cosmetic Camouflage Service works and displayed

several palettes of differing shades/makes of cover-up creams and showed how they can

be mixed/blended to provide an even further range.

Two members of the audience kindly volunteered to allow Mrs. Linn to demonstrate the use and

benefits of cosmetic camouflage.

Both Dr. Taylor and Mrs Linn were given LUPUS UK gifts as a thank you for giving up their time

on a Sunday to address the Meeting.

The Meeting was also given an update on national matters by Brian Hanner, Director, LUPUS UK.

Mr. Hanner congratulated the West Midlands Lupus Group on its excellent fund raising record and

underlined that the Group is still the best in the UK in this respect.

The sales table did well and, combined with the proceeds of the day’s Raffle and Bring & Buy stall,

the sum of £160.60 was raised. This money will be used to help fund ongoing research/patient

care in the area covered by WMLG.
